GMC Shows Off Transparent Trailer View in New HD Trucks

Do you ever have those moments where you see something new and marvel, “That is so cool!” That’s how we reacted when we saw the new GMC Transparent Trailer View that’s arriving on the redesigned 2020 Sierra HD trucks later this year. It essentially makes your trailer invisible on the display screen so you can see what is coming up behind it — much like the cloaking abilities you see in science fiction films.

Transparent Trailer View is part of the ProGrade Trailering System. It uses a tailgate-mounted camera and a rear camera on the trailer to stitch together a virtual view of your surroundings on the screen. This view is one of 15 different views that will help give you more visibility while towing.

“Trailering is the most important consideration for Sierra Heavy Duty customers, and the new features and technologies in the 2020 Sierra HD make it easier than ever to hitch a trailer and tow it confidently,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, vehicle chief engineer of GMC Heavy Duty Trucks. “We’ve developed this new truck to offer the greatest trailering experience ever offered by GMC.” GMC will take much of the advanced trailering technology you can find in the current 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 and incorporate it into its next-generation of heavy-duty trucks. However, with some unique new additions like the Transparent Trailer View, the GMC Sierra HD trucks coming next year will revolutionize towing functionality. Check the system out when the 2020 Sierra HD models arrive at Aber’s Truck Center.
